Parimal Karmakar did his ph.D from Department of Biophysics, Molecularbiology , Calcutta University. The area of his work was DNA repair mechanisms in human cells. After Ph.D he joined in the Sylvious laboratory, Leiden University, The Netherland as a postdoctoral fellow. The area of research was Mechanisms of Nucleotide excision repair in human cells.
He also did his second postdoc from National Institutes on Ageing,NIH, Baltimore, USA. The main focus of research was ageing and cancer. After that he joined as a Associate Professor in the department of Life Science and Biotechnology, Jadavpur University. Later he worked in Tohoku University, Japan as a JSPS fellow. He published more than 145 research papers in reputed journals. Also, supervised fifteen students for Ph.D.
